Another great wine from Colchagua Chile - Axel Syrah

axel syrah colchagua chilean wine.jpg Axel Syrah from La Playa winery in Colchagua, Chile is one of the best Syrah's that I have tasted this summer.

I have been quite impressed with a lot of the wines coming out of the Colchagua Valley in Chile. Opulent fruit yet good acidity, and generally well-balanced.

Deep, ruby red. On the nose, Axel Syrah is multi-dimensional - with subtle note of blackberry and raspberry, with hints of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate, the fruit rolls off your tongue, with hints of chocolate and mocha. Well-balanced, with a long, pleasant finish.

Very tasty with lamb chops.

Dan - you are spot on with this review. I have tried this wine, too, and it is exceptional. Have you tried their Cabernet? I am anxious to try...

Brad - glad you liked it as well. I have not tried the Cabernet yet, but I hope to try it this weekend. The 2003 vintage received 92 points and a Best Buy from Wine Spectator. If it is the same caliber as the Syrah, I suspect it will be a big wine with a lot of depth. Will let you know.
